First and foremost: What Happens If You Post WhatsApp Links?
We want to be clear: posting WhatsApp links or recruiting members for other groups (even personal Telegram groups) in our groups are NOT allowed. If you do so, you will be permanently banned from all student groups. This rule is in place to protect the community and ensure a positive experience for everyone.
But Why?
Our goal is to create a space where collaboration thrives — where shared past papers, tutorial letters, and academic discussions benefit everyone. When conversations are redirected to other groups, it fragments our community and dilutes the value of these resources. You and your peers miss out on the collective knowledge, support, and opportunities that come from a unified, active group. By keeping discussions here, we ensure that all students have equal access to the tools and insights they need to succeed. Let’s work together to maintain a strong, inclusive, and productive environment for all.
Let’s Keep Our Community Strong
We moved to Telegram to build a better, more connected space for all students. By respecting these rules, you help us maintain a productive, secure, and active community. Thank you for your cooperation, and best of luck with your studies!
WhatsApp vs Telegram
| Telegram | ||
| Group Size Limits | Supports up to 200,000 members per group. That’s scalability we simply couldn’t ignore. | Caps group membership at 1,024 users. For a growing community, this is a major roadblock. |
| No Access to Chat History | New members has access to the entire chat history. | If you join a group late, you miss out on all previous conversations and shared files. |
| Constant Requests to Share Files | Every file shared before you joined is still available. No more repetitive requests—just instant access to what you need. | Ever been in a WhatsApp group where someone asks, “Can someone please share the notes again?” |
| Security and User Management | Offers robust tools to ban scammers/spammers across all groups, keeping the community safe and focused. | Security features are limited, especially when it comes to managing disruptive users. Banning someone from one group doesn’t prevent them from joining others. |
| Privacy Concerns | Telegram lets you join groups without revealing your number, protecting your privacy. | Sharing your personal phone number on WhatsApp exposes you to spam messages and unwanted calls, |
| Joining Groups is a Hassle | Our custom bot lets you search and join any group instantly, putting you in control of your experience. | You have to wait for an admin to add you to a group |
Why Telegram?
Telegram isn’t perfect, but it addresses the core issues we faced on WhatsApp. The transition took years of planning and countless hours of work, but the results speak for themselves: a more scalable, and user-friendly platform for our community.
The Bottom Line
Change isn’t always easy, but it’s often necessary. We moved to Telegram to build a better, more inclusive space for everyone. If you haven’t made the switch yet, we encourage you to give it a try. The benefits—better security, instant access to resources, and a seamless joining process—are worth it.
